About
Dru has been passionate about helping others since the days of sweater dresses and leg warmers. She eagerly helped with her middle school’s conflict resolution program and later volunteered with YMCA’s Project Cornerstone through her children’s elementary school, but those weren’t enough to satisfy her passion to help others; she saw an emotional need among adults and students that wasn’t being fulfilled.
To answer this, she went on to become an English teacher, then earned her master’s degree in Adolescent Developmental Counseling at Liberty University. She felt her dream career starting to take shape which led her to the health and wellness coach training program with Duke University.
Amid her divorce after 15 years of marriage, and the loss of her father, Dru decided life truly is too short not to pursue your dreams. So she finished her coaching training and became a certified Master Transformation Life Coach with an emphasis on recovery and self-awareness through Transformation Academy.
Now, Dru is enjoying watching the the hard work she has put into her vision take shape. She is always learning new skills and developing herself so she can help her clients live their absolute best lives.
Education
Back in 2011, Dru graduated from her local community college with her AA in English with a minor in Mass Communication. She went on to earn her BA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University in 2013. As she raised her two toddlers into full-fledged children, she began her adventures in teaching, starting with an internship at San Jose State University teaching exchange students English etiquette for use in business conversations and email correspondence.
Soon after SJSU, she worked 1-on-1 with students in a private school. Even at this point in her life, she knew she wanted to work for herself and she wanted to be remote so she could have more flexibility for her family. This desire led her to start a tutoring company in which she would meet with students in their homes, often working with homeschool families. It was at this point that Dru started really feeling her career form. However, as life has a habit of doing, it threw a curveball at her.
In 2017, just as Word Sprouts, Dru’s tutoring company, became successful she was forced to move. With few options available, Dru, her husband, and their 4th and 5th grade children moved east and landed in Wyoming just a few hours from majestic Yellowstone National Park.
Unable to convince her tutoring clients to work virtually, Dru found herself back at square one. Not knowing what else to do, and still passionate about education, Dru returned to school and earned her MA in Teaching from Western Governors University. Though her goal of teaching online never did come to fruition, this was the beginning of her path toward coaching.
Her first month teaching in a traditional public school classroom was far from easy or typical. Mid September, she was severely injured in a car accident while her husband was driving and hit a buck, totaling her car. Less than three weeks later, she found out her father was dying. During this whirlwind of emotion and upheaval, Dru felt torn and pulled, always neglecting one area of her life to rescue the other only to feel like she is drowning along the way. No matter what she did or how hard she tried, she consistently felt like she was neglecting someone or something. In her heart, she knew there had to be a better way.
Late October 2021, her dad passed away. Her mom had lost her battle with Pancreatic Cancer in 2005. Witnessing first hand how life doesn’t always go as planned, how putting things off means they may never happen, Dru decided there was more to life and she was going to find it. Her parents never got to enjoy their retirement years at all, let alone together. Dru vowed to find a way to enjoy her life. And just like that, she knew what she had to do.
She finished out the school year, left her husband, and began an intentional life of happiness with her now teenage children. After the divorce dust settled, Dru completed her MA in Adolescent Developmental Counseling from Liberty University and finished her coaching certification. She began her training with Duke University in their Health and Wellness coaching program, then earned her certificate in Transformational Life Coaching from Transformation Academy.
Today, Dru savors the restful sleep she gets at night, embraces the challenge of being a single mom starting a business, and looks ahead at what will soon be an empty nest – hoping she has taught her little darlings everything they need to know.
